Scope of our Work

We are a General Internal Medicine group with subspecialties in clinical cardiology and geriatrics. General Internal Medicine is a specialty concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the adult. It includes primary care as well as more advanced care for many diseases of organs/systems.

Clinical Cardiology

We provide up-to-date care for patients with congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, cardiac arrhythmia, and pacemaker management. Referrals are made for invasive studies when necessary.

We also believe in preventive cardiac care, delivered through our Cardiovascular Risk Management Program.

Geriatric Medicine

We provide multi-dimensional geriatric care including evaluation of common geriatric syndromes such as dementia, depression, urinary incontinence, frequent falls and malnutrition; management of pain and other symptoms in the terminally ill; evaluation of appropriate medication use in the elderly; preventive care and health maintenance; family support, assistance and guidance in issues of nursing home placement, care of patients with dementia and preparation of advance directives; and referral to various community support services.

Our providers are strong patient advocates who can help patients be at their most functional, whether they live in the community or in a nursing home, and receive the best medical care possible, both in the hospital and the intensive care unit.

Management of Multisystem Diseases and Complex Medical Conditions

A large share of our patients meet this description. Caring for them is a major professional responsibility and commitment.

The interactions between different diseases and organs dysfunction, the many possible explanations for symptoms, the dangers of polypharmacotherapy, require frequent and extensive reassessments and review; the coordination of subspecialty care and hospitalizations, extensive documentation needs, may be daunting.

Nonetheless it is a privilege to provide this degree of complexity of care to patients in need, and an honor to be recognized as the group caring for sickest patients.

Critical Care and Intensive Care

We provide aggressive multifaceted medical management of acute myocardial infarction and acute coronary syndrome, which integrates the latest scientific advances in the field. For patients who are candidates for early selective revascularization procedures, we arrange for prompt referrals and continuity of care.

Electronic Medical Records

Soon they will be required for every practice. At RMMC we have been experimenting with EMR since 1993. This technology is still imperfect and expensive, and requires a significant commitment in time and energies, but it is evolving. However, we find it very helpful in contributing to better patient care.
